SEC Announces Spring Academic Honors

BATON ROUGE, La. – On Wednesday, the 2016 Southeastern Conference Spring Honor Roll was released, as LSU had 62 student-athletes were honored for their work in the classroom over the course of the last year.

The 2016 Spring SEC Academic Honor Roll is based on grades from the 2015 Summer, 2015 Fall and 2016 Spring terms.

Leading the way with 19 selections was the LSU women's track & field team, followed by baseball with 11 honorees. The Tiger softball team had nine student-athletes honored, while men's and women's golf and women's tennis had five make the cut each. Rounding out the list were three student-athletes from men's tennis.

The Lady Tigers track & field squad earned a sixth-place finish at the 2016 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon two weeks ago, which includes honoree Mikiah Brisco who helped shatter the previous LSU record and Hayward Field record in the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 42.65 seconds and earned a pair of All-American honors while at the championships.

On the diamond the LSU baseball team won 45 games and earned a postseason national seed for the fifth-straight season, something no other team in the country can lay claim to. LSU got big hits from the likes of players like Greg Deichmann, while getting dominant pitching performances in the circle from the trio of Alex Lange, Jared Poche and John Valek III.

For the first time in the history of the program the LSU softball team earned consecutive trips to the Women's College World Series, as the Tigers won 50 games for the second-straight season for the first time since the 2006 and 2007 seasons. Leading the group on the list were two players who helped lead the team to the 2016 SEC Softball Tournament Final in All-Tournament players Carley Hoover and Sandra Simmons.

Leading the group of men's golfer was two-time All-American Zach Wright, who has earned All-America honors for the second-straight season follows his honorable mention selection by the GCAA as a junior in 2015. Men's golf made it back to the match play round of the national championships, finishing tied for fifth place, earning a top-five finish for the third consecutive season.

Elise Bradley, a WGCA All-Region selection, helped lead the LSU women's golf team to the postseason in a year in which the University Club was a host site, as she advanced out of the regional to finish her career at the NCAA Women's Golf Championship with a 54-hole qualifying in the individual competition at 10-over 226 with rounds of 72-75-79.

The LSU women's tennis team finished the season ranked 18th overall, tying the highest season-ending ranking in the program's history. The Lady Tigers finished the season with a record of 19-12, which included a win over No. 10 Oklahoma State. Joana Vale Costa was a first-team All-SEC selection and was selected for the NCAA singles championships.

Men's tennis also qualified for the NCAA tournament for the 17th time in 19 seasons, and sentJordan Daigle, an All-SEC selection, to the NCAA singles and doubles competition where he was able to  advance to the round of 16.
