Kendell Johnson joined the Cox Communications Academic Center for Student-Athletes (CCACSA) team as Academic Advisor for Football in October 2025. In this role, Johnson provides comprehensive academic support to football student-athletes, focusing on academic planning, NCAA eligibility, and holistic student development.
Johnson previously served as an Academic Advisor at Austin Peay State University, where he managed a caseload of more than 90 student-athletes across multiple sports (Football, Men's & Women's Tennis, and Men's Golf).. During his tenure, all of the programs Kendell worked alongside achieved a 3.0 GPA or higher in both semesters, marking a strong period of academic success. He enhanced academic operations by implementing efficient study hall systems, facilitating progress meetings with coaches, and supporting academic recruiting and graduation planning efforts.
Prior to Austin Peay, Johnson worked with the Florida State University football program as a Football Academic Fellow, where he monitored NCAA academic eligibility, conducted weekly academic meetings, and contributed to recruiting and development initiatives, including FSU’s Leaders Yearning for Excellence (L.Y.F.E.) program.
While pursuing his master’s degree, Johnson gained valuable experience as a Graduate Assistant in the University of Mississippi’s Athletic Department, working directly with football student-athletes to track progress, coordinate tutoring, and assist in academic reporting and recruiting events.
A New Orleans, Louisiana native, Johnson earned his Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance (Magna Cum Laude) from the University of Memphis, where he was also a Division I football student-athlete, and his Master of Arts in Higher Education/Student Personnel from the University of Mississippi.
Johnson is an active member of the National Association of Academic and Student-Athlete Development Professionals (N4A) and the Minority Opportunities Athletic Association (MOAA).
